Notes on problems that may occur downloading the DemeGraph

General

The Demegraph is set up to print on A4 size paper. Using other paper sizes may require you printer setup to be modified to shrink the image slightly.

Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format

To work successfully, Acrobat must be downloaded and set up in accordance with the instructions given by Adobe. Depending on how you configured your computer, Acrobat may open as a window within your browser or, alternatively, may start the Acrobat Reader as a separate application.

If your browser has not been configured to recognize Acrobat portable document (pdf) files, the Demegraph may be saved to disk in the file you have specified to receive downloads. The file name is "DemeGraf.pdf". You may load this file into the Acrobat Reader and print it later if you wish.

Microsoft Word 5.1 for Macintosh Format

While superseded, this word processing program is still widely used by Macintosh owners. The principal problem with using either word processor version of the Demegraph is that the printed version may be affected by factors such as fonts loaded on your computer and the graphical capabilities of your printer. This version uses the Helvetica font. The file name is "Demgraf5.doc" (Sorry about the horrible DOS name, it's for compatibility!) Later versions of Word can open this document, although they may or may not display and print the graphics properly, depending on configuration.

Depending on how your browser is configured, you may be prompted to save the file to disk or it may automatically open in Word.

Microsoft Word 97/98 for Macintosh and Windows Format

This version uses the Arial font. This font is widely used in place of Helvetica on Windows machines. If you have loaded Office 98 or Powerpoint on your Mac, it's highly likely that you have Arial installed too. The file name is "Demgrf98.doc"

GIF Format

This version is just a large graphic image of the Demegraph page in GIF format. So that it prints out with reasonable resolution, it is encoded at twice normal screen resolution. This means you have have to specify printing the image at 50% reduction so that it fits on one page.
